From the moment you enter Smoke Signals restaurant in Lake Placid, it is evident that just about every seat is the best one in the house. You’ll, of course, want to take in the view of Mirror Lake, visible from nearly every table through the floor-to-ceiling glass wall. But also take in the architectural details, the exciting finish work, and the art. This isn’t just some barbeque joint. What the gastro-pub has done for a burger and fries, Smoke Signals has done for barbeque.

Owners Jason Stoltz and Layla Wolfberg recently celebrated the first anniversary of the business opening, and are working hard to build on their initial success. Their vision is to combine classics, like ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, with more unique items to keep both staff and guests excited and coming back for more. “We change our menu seasonally, and utilize fresh, local flavors and ingredients,” they explained. “Every single item, from our buttermilk cornbread to salad dressings, to our various rubs and sauces, is made in-house and entirely from scratch. Maintaining high quality and consistency has been our main focus since our opening.”
